New campaign video

IPIC is pleased to share with you the launch of the fifth and latest testimonial video as part of IPIC's multiple award winning Own it., campaign. Own it., is an awareness campaign promoting the value of intellectual property (IP) and IP professionals to entrepreneurs, SMEs and business leaders.

The Own it., campaign is a bold rallying call to Canadian companies to be fearless and future-focused and to own every step of their IP journey. It is also sound advice to secure what belongs to them – their IP – and a call to action to take the necessary steps now to ensure they maintain their competitive advantage.

The latest video features Makatew Workshops, founded in 2019 by Marc Forgette, a French Algonquin member of the Apitipi Anicinapek Nation (formerly Wahgoshig First Nation), located in Carp, Ontario.

Makatew Workshops offers hands-on workshops where participants assemble a traditional Indigenous craft while learning about its history and significance, and they also offer opportunities for educational speaking engagements.

Makatew Workshops turned to IP to protect their Indigenous name that was once taken away from them and through the experience of protecting their name saw the great value in working with an IP professional to guide them through this important process.

We are pleased to share this important story with IPIC members during National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the stories, achievements and resilience of Indigenous Peoples, who have lived on this land since time immemorial and whose presence and contributions positively impact all Canadians.

This video was developed in collaboration with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).

How to get involved

To help amplify the campaign’s message and reach as wide an audience as possible, IPIC would like to ask for the support of its valued members, you, for your support in sharing the testimonial video among your networks; with your colleagues and clients.

The key to a successful campaign is engagement, which is why we are counting on your valuable help. Here are some ideas for how to promote the value of IP and IP professionals in Canada by getting involved with the Own it. campaign:

  1. What can you do? Share our social media posts and videos, the video can easily be shared from all of IPIC's social media channels including LinkedInTwitter, and Facebook
  2. Or develop your own based on the content within the campaign's Media Kit.  The Media Kit includes helpful information, links to the video, campaign hashtags, sample posts and downloadable visuals you are welcome to use.
  3. Get your firm or company involved! IPIC is connecting with various government agencies, media partners, and associations to invite them to take part in promoting this campaign. We encourage you and your firm to do the same!

Thank you in advance for your support!
